About Us ... The Polecats...

Our club was founded in the 1950's when a group of friends got together, formed a non-profit organization, bought a house in N.H. and formed the ski club to make skiing more affordable and more accessible to more people.

We are part of a larger organization called the Eastern-Inter Club Ski League (EICSL.org). About 23 ski clubs belong to EICSL and each one is a little different and has it's own personality. What makes the Polecats unique is our members. We're laidback and easy-going and are just trying to enjoy the outdoors and the skiing/snowboarding. The atmosphere at the house is very friendly and fun. Our members range in age from twenty-something to sixty-something. Most of us are in our mid to late twenties though. In the winter our activities revolve around skiing. On a typical weekend, people arrive to the house Friday night, we hang out, have a few beers, play cards or darts or go to the local pub. Saturday we try to get up early to go skiing/snowboarding at one of the various resorts in the area. There is always an afternoon social from 4-7 at one of the clubs and then an evening social at a different club from 9-1. We eat dinner in between socials (either go out or cook at at the club) and usually take a cab to the night social so no one has to worry about drinking and driving. On Sunday we clean up the house and some people head home early, others get in another day of skiing. The Polecats usually host 3-4 socials during the ski season. ICEBAR, (the biggest and best ski club social), is held at our house every year.

We are a pretty open, easy-going group who are just trying to have a good time. If you are reasonably sane, not into too much drama and can chuckle at a good joke then you'll fit in fine. Expert skiing skills are not required! A few of our members don't even ski.

When there's no snow on the ground we do a variety of other activities, we've had softball and basketball teams in the past. We've done hiking trips, kayaking and tubing on the Saco River and bar crawls in Boston.

Directions from Boston

1. Take I-95 NORTH.
2. TAKE EXIT 4, ON LEFT, NH ROUTE-16N, towards WHITE MOUNTAINS.
3. Take left turn at second set of traffic lights in Conway Village, remain on route 16-N (Note alternate routes at heavy traffic times are West Side Road (left at first set of lights) OR Kancamagus Highway (left at intersection immediately prior to entering Conway village).
4. Continue on ROUTE 16-N through North Conway.
5. Turn right onto Town Hall Road, Intervale off ROUTE 16-N.  You will pass the Scarecrow pub on your left shortly before the turning.
